Israel

Hello and welcome to Israel! My name is Rani, which in Hebrew means “my song.” My father loves all types of music, but he says that because I was his first child, I was the most beautiful kind of music he ever heard. I am ten years old, and can’t wait to take you around my country and show you everything there is!

Fun Facts

Israel is the world’s only mostly Jewish state. It has its historical and religious origins in the Biblical Land of Israel (Eretz Yisrael) and in the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Israel has occupied the West Bank and Gaza Strip (about 2,200 square miles) since the Six Day War in 1967.

  • The capital of Israel is Jerusalem.

  • The population is almost 7.5 million people.

  • The currency in Israel is the New Sheqel. It can be divided into 100 agorot.

Hummus and couscous, two foods you might have heard of, are very popular in this country, as is Israeli Salad, made of finely diced tomato and cucumber. Some of the popular meals include falafel, a fried ball made from spiced chickpeas or fava beans, and shakshouka, an egg and tomato dish.
